Amsterdam

Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is famous for its artistic history, extensive canal system and narrow houses, all dating from the Golden Age of the 1800s. Soaking up the architecture and atmosphere the city has to offer is easy by taking one of the numerous canal boat cruises. Stop for lunch at one of the many Brown Cafes found on the canals, or sample French Fries with mayonnaise, a particular Dutch speciality.

You will be spoilt for choice in Amsterdam for art museums, with the Van Gogh Museum, works by Vermeer and Rembrandt in the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk all lying within its Museum District. Relax with a drink afterwards at one of the many cafes in nearby Leidseplain or take a leisurely walk in Vondelpark.

When it’s time for dinner, Amsterdam is also famous for its Thai and Indonesian food, with many restaurants situated in Chinatown,  or take a trip to the spectacular 3 storey pagoda-styled Sea Palace Chinese restaurant on Lake Ij. The party doesn’t stop in Amsterdam after dinner with many clubs such as the Paradiso and Milky Way offering live music, or you can safely wander and experience the electric and colourful Red Light District, one of Europe’s most notorious neighbourhoods.
